Goos, Steuerwald, Erickson, Halouska open I-90 season with wins
All four of Saturday’s season opening winners at I-90 Speedway were former champions at the speedway just west of Hartford, South Dakota. Lee Goos Jr. was victorious in the Spielman Excavating IMCA Sprint Cars, Matt Steuerwald won in the Late Model Street Stocks. Duke Erickson and Tracy Halouska took home the trophies in the USRA B-Mods and Hobby Stocks, respectively.
For Goos, the 2021 and 2023 champion, this win marks win 13 in the class at I-90 Speedway. Those victories go with his three wins in 360 sprint ranks.
Steuerwald, the 2008-2010 champion hit a milestone with the season opening win, marking career win number 30 at the speedway – all in the Late Model Street Stock class. Those 30 wins put Steuerwald second in the all-time win list for the class at I-90 Speedway. Craig Hanisch has the most class wins at 33.
Erickson claimed his second consecutive USRA B-Mod victory at the track, dating back to last season’s championship night where he also went to victory lane while securing the track title. This was his third overall win at the track.
For Halouska, who is the defending champion in the USRA Hobby Stocks, the career win tally is now at 7.
I-90 Speedway welcomes the RepairableVehicles.com Tri-State Late Models to the speedway this Saturday. The stands open at 5 p.m. with cars taking to the track at 6:30.
